Do not assume that draining, cleaning or packing the contents is included in a standard disposal quotation.

Why Must an Old Aquarium Be Drained Before Removal?

Water adds substantial weight to a fish tank.

For example, 100 litres of water weighs approximately 100 kg, excluding the glass, cabinet, gravel and accessories.

A partly filled aquarium can also spill while being moved, creating slippery floors and increasing the risk of losing control of a heavy glass structure.

Never attempt to carry a glass aquarium containing water.

Drain the water using a suitable method, then remove remaining moisture before collection.

How Should You Remove Gravel, Sand and Aquarium Substrate?

Gravel and sand can add considerable weight to a fish tank, particularly in larger setups.

Remove the substrate after draining the water and place it in manageable containers.

Avoid overfilling bags with wet gravel or sand, as they may become too heavy or split during handling.

If you want Junk Value Recycling to assess the disposal of bagged aquarium substrate or other non-hazardous contents, declare these separately when requesting a quotation. They are not automatically included with the empty tank.

What We Check Before Collecting an Old Fish Tank

One common source of misunderstanding in aquarium disposal is the difference between the size of the glass tank and the amount of equipment surrounding it.

A four-foot aquarium with a cabinet, sump and multiple accessories is a different removal job from a standalone four-foot glass tank.

When assessing a fish tank disposal request, Junk Value Recycling considers:

  • Tank length, width and height

  • Approximate glass thickness

  • Whether the tank is empty and dry

  • Cabinet and sump tank dimensions

  • Whether the setup is freestanding or built-in

  • Lift, doorway and corridor clearance

  • Carrying distance to the vehicle

  • Required manpower and collection date

For larger aquariums, glass thickness and overall construction are especially important.

The practical lesson: Send photographs of the entire aquarium setup, not just the front of the glass tank.

How Much Does Old Fish Tank Disposal Cost in Singapore?

The cost depends on more than the aquarium's length.

Factors include glass thickness, total weight, manpower, lift access, carrying distance and whether a cabinet or sump tank is included.

A complete aquarium setup may cost more to remove than an empty standalone tank because it involves additional components and handling.

For an accurate quotation, provide the tank measurements and photographs showing all items requiring disposal.
